Oh crap. I think my computer got infected by some stupid virus. I couldn’t start firefox. I got this error that read

“I DONT HATE MOZILLA BUT USE IE YOU DOPE!”

Seriously, that’s just stupid. Who likes Internet Explorer? FYI, I’m not using IE at this moment, I’m using Flock. Flock is fine, but I love using google toolbar. Being a lousy speller, I make the full use of the spellcheck feature. Further more, my bookmarks and shortcuts are all there!

Anyway, I told my dad about this.

Me: Dad, I couldn’t launch Mozilla, I got this stupid error. As if IE got me the virus or something.
Dad: I don’t know. You are the only one who’s using your laptop.
Me: …
Dad: That must be the IE supporters.
Me: Bastards.

I hate IE, but I not IE supporters. Now I don’t just hate IE, I just hate them both.

Ok, there are only two groups of people. a)People who hates IE and b)people who just don’t care which browser they are using. People who hates IE usually came from the group of webdesigners. We all know how we have to make some special hack to make our design work in IE. We spend most of our time on CSS just to make it work on IE. I think we should stop using the hack and let people see the ugly side of IE. There are better browsers than IE!

So, why most people do not realise this? Because we spent so much time on our CSS to patch the IE bugs. damn it.

Unfortunately, according to the global browser stats conducted by TheCounter.com, 44% of internet surfers are still using IE6, 35% are using IE7 which makes the total IE users of 79% around the world.

That sucks.

So, people, if you are using IE, get better browsers so you can view websites beautifully as it was meant to be. It’s for your eyes, and our (designer) souls. Check out Mozilla or Flock

Now, tell me which browser do you prefer and why. (even If you prefer IE, voice it out, I won’t shoot you )

Note: I don’t usually talk about technology. It bores me. and probably you, too. But this time, I just can’t help it.

Use Opera, for power users.

Uh about the virus, I’ve heard of it before, but never got it myself. But you might want to search for “I DONT HATE MOZILLA BUT USE IE YOU DOPE!” strings in regedit, use systernal autoruns, and delete the virus manually.

Yes, give Opera a try. On Windows it’s the fastest browser ever (although on Mac, Safari is king). It’s also the most secure browser. Previously it’s had many issues with site compatibility, but it’s progressively getting better. I’ve personally tried the beta releases for Opera 9.5 and I can say site compatibility has been greatly improved.

Aisyah oi… IE ramai orang guna sebab die datang secara default dengan Windows. Then kebanyakkan pengguna2 Windows ni tak tahu ada nya Firefox. Dats why ramai yang gunakan IE. , Hanya golongan2 elite macam kita (*cough *cough) ni je yang tahu menggunakan Firefox.

IE7 it’s not that bad, but I still prefer firefox or opera :)

Hello Aisyah , nice to know that you found the solution to the virus from my site. To completely remove the virus, you have to remove the virus from all USB drives (including mp3 players, cameras, some mobile phones, external hard drives) that you used in your computer.

Your friends’ computers will also be probably infected.

It appears as a hidden/system file called MicrosoftPowerpoint.exe in your USB devices.

So many new viruses are also spreading by USB (I’ve seen about 20 different types in my friends’ compuers). Maybe I will write a whole set of tutorials for removing them. Or maybe create an antivirus

The virus does actually laugh out loud. It has a file called 1.mp3 in C:\heap41a

It is a laughter sound (Muhahaha) and you can hear it when you try to access orkut or youtube in an infected computer.

LOL, I use FF because of the plugins.

Anyways, as for IE. Maybe some computers, like public computers, only has IE installed on it, so you can’t choose which browser you surf with. I know that the people who maintain those computers/network can install FF, but you know what I mean… I hope. LOL.

LOL, I used to use Opera, but now I like FF better because of the plugins.

hah I used to help my friend removing that virus. those IE bastards huh :D

I use FF for main browsing because all my bookmarks, probably over 200 of them, are in FF. And yeah, bwcause of the add-ons as well :)

but certain site like Digg and Myspace will sometimes crash FF so I use Opera for those sites.

Still, in Malaysia, especially our gov websites, including the ministry of education, require us to use that stupid IE. u will experience that when you have to fill in some online applications. -_-

I use IE. :P Only because my dad used it before.. and it was the only one on my computer. Ive used it since I was 7.. and i didnt realise their were other browsers until i was like… 13.. but by then I was so used to using IE.. I do use firefox and Opera occasionally though! :)

i use safari for windows and firefox. The problem I have with firefox, is that it sometimes hang. This is due to memory leak. I usually get the developer pack and do some patching on my own.. usually will result to reinstall my firefox. If you want a cool browser, get safari for windows, it ROCKS!

I guess the guy just wanted to make it a point by stating Firefox ain’t 100% secure in comparison to IE.

However, I bet he/she took a longer time coming up with something for Mozilla than IE. :P

Anyway, Firefox is still my way since it’s faster (even than IE7) and the guys there are part of the web standards project. Viva la Firefox!

I’m sorry that a stupid hacker did that to your Firefox ): Why don’t you uninstall it and then install it again?

I guess I fit in with group b who don’t really care what browser they’re using. I’m using IE atm, but that’s only because it came with the computer. The reason behind the survey results is that most people, like I, just use the browser that comes with their computer and most people use Windows… :D

Might download Firefox sometime in the future, but right now, I think I’ll just stick with IE.

Before knowing the existence of Firefox, I used IE and wasn’t bothered about other browsers. I just didn’t care. When I got to know more about FF from other sites and people were saying it’s so much better than IE, I decided to give it a try and voila! It rocks my socks! And there are other things that I love about FF: spell check feature, add-ons, etc etc.

ya that a virus… i got it a long ago but my antivirus cannot detect it. dunno what virus it is n i dont want think more then i format my pc.. ^^

i prefer firefox coz it have many extension, tool, theme, fast browser, less popup n more… firefox more good then other browser. ie very sux….

Honestly, I hate IE. I’ve been using Firefox a good while now and I’m satisfied. For example, I was working on a theme for the past week. In FF, it appeared fine, when I tested it in IE, it looked like crap. I had to make a number of changes to my CSS just to please IE users.

err.. in 2007 if im not mistaken..

BTW, i’m using several types of browser actually..

2. firefox
3. opera
4. maxthon
5. IE - 6,7
6. another mozilla engin browser (removed already)
7. avant

why?
because i’m designing a website, therefore it needs to make sure most used brower can render my CSS file.. or some cases the HTML structure codes..

so, thats is the process of developing a worldwide compatible website.
