Happyganics Products Review – laundry detergent & bottle cleanser

Happyganics is a plant-based brand and the products are made in USA. I think they just started selling in Malaysia because I’ve never heard of them before. If you know me, I’m a huge natural products fan. I’m all for natural skincare and (natural food!). We have been using all-natural laundry detergents and bottle cleanser of different brands before, so it’s definitely not new to me.

Not only it’s better for us, but it’s better for the planet too. The chemicals from the detergent that are being dumped to the drainage system can be harmful for the earth.

Anyway, it’s been a little over a month since I’ve been using these products and I have to say I love them!

First of all, let’s talk about the packaging. I mean, tin container? And that cute graphic – I totally love them! They look so cute on the counter and I love looking at the packaging. I don’t know if it’s a designer thing, but does anyone else cares about product packaging? haha.

BABY ALL-NATURAL LAUNDRY DETERGENT

I got two variations of the products. Both are fragrance-free but the other one has Lavender scent. When it says Lavender, it doesn’t actually have fragrance, they are actually using Lavender essential oil. Fragrance is whole another chemical that you might want to avoid especially if your baby (or you) have sensitive skin. For me, fragrance in skincare is complete NO-NO. If you are using cloth diapers, some people actually prefer using unscented because that way, you can really tell whether the diapers come out clean. Sometimes detergent can mask the actual smell in case the laundry is still not clean. Unscented is also an option for those with very sensitive skin condition like eczema.

For me, both of them perform more or less the same in terms of performance. My laundry comes out soft and fresh-smelling.

I prefer lavender scent, it’s leaves a nice, gentle lavender smell on the clothes once dried. Unlike the chemical-ridden commercial detergents, the smell sometimes can be too strong or smells artificial.  I prefer to keep the unscented ones in the bathroom for soaking soiled clothes. For staining, I use one scoop in a bucket water and soak them for atleast 15-30mins or sometimes even for hours depending on how lazy I am.  I have successfully removed blood and organic stains. For now, I have to say, compared to Rockin’ Green detergent, Happyganics works better in terms of stain remover. I find that I have to work harder to get stains out using Rockin’ Green.

However, in my opinion,  the real test in stain remover is removing MILO stains. So, I made a video to test the efficiency of stain removing power!

Anyway, if you don’t bother to watch the video, the verdict for Milo: excellent! You have no idea just how many clothes I have thrown away because of milo stains. No milo, you say? Tell that to my daughter.

Now, let’s talk about the bottle cleanser.

Happyganics Bottle Cleanser

happyganics-bottle-cleanser

The bottle cleanser comes with lemon-lime scent from the essential oil. My first impression is that the lemon scent is very strong from what I’m used to in other bottle cleanser. However, I learned that I only need very little amount of detergent to clean the bottle. Also, I think it’s very efficient in removing the milk fat. With other bottle cleanser I sometimes find that I have to repeat the process to get it really clean, but with this, I probably never had to. Also, it also performs really well with overnight bottle (that is, bottle with milk that has been left for very long time, overnight or even 24hours with sour milk that has turned into sour pudding LOL- super gross!).

Also, with outings, I find that I can even skip the bottle brush and just shake the bottle vigorously with water and detergent for like 60 sec. It comes out pretty clean! Provided I clean it as soon as possible, that is. With other detergents, that hasn’t really been the case.

Overall, I am very happy with the products and would totally recommend it. For more information on Happyganics, go to https://happyganics.my/.

P.s, proper blog entry coming soon. My life updates – especially why I’ve been too busy to update my blog!

Sara goes to BeeBop Circus @ The School Jaya One

Last few weekends, we had been taking Sara to BeeBop circus class, and it was such a great class! At first, I thought it was just physical play, but it’s much more than that.

The class is about 45 minutes long and has story-telling, singing and encourage interactions between the children and the instructor. It also has physical play that encourages balance, and ability to follow instructions. It’s great, because it’s a learning through play and Sara really loved it. Sara is almost (exactly 3 years), so she’s in accompanied class which involves parents. BeeBop has many other classes to suit different age groups.

On Sara’s first day, she was a bit shy to speak up, and a bit resistant to try to follow through the activities. However, with a bit of encouragement, she just go ahead and participate.

On her second class, we had already see improvement, she was speaking up more, and more excited to participate. She would be one of the first to run to be the first to start the activity play! I’m so proud of her. Sara has soooo much energy, even by the end of the class, she would still have so much energy left, although I could see she was beginning to feel tired, but she won’t give up. Some kids do slow down, which is fine, but not Sara. I’m not surprised, but it’s amazing for her.

Surprisingly for me, her balance has also improved. Previously she stumbled a lot and bumping into things, LOL but now not so much. In fact, I think the class is also great for parents, because it gave us ideas on how to play with our daughter at home. Back home, we repeat some of the games we played in the class.

On her last day of class, we felt a bit sad about not being able to continue as it’s mostly logistic issue. Beebop circus is located at The School, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya, while we are staying in KL. On weekends, we go to our mum’s house in Shah Alam, so you can see how hectic our weekend can get as it could take 4 hours total just to bring her there and come back home.

However, if you do live nearby or time is not a concern (as if I’m not mistaken they also have weekday classes) I would definitely recommened Beebop Circus. It is so beneficial for Sara and we can see it.

My husband made a little video so you can get some ideas..

UPDATE 29-March 2017 – Until today Sara still talked about Beebop circus and even sang to some of the songs that she learned. It goes to say during that short 4 classes, it really made an impact on her.

World Organic Makeup Review: My Newfound Love

I’ve always been a fan of natural and organic things. I’ve tried many, many commercial skin care growing up, but I found that the synthetic (and sometimes harsh, no matter how mild the formula is) tends to irritate or cause side effects when used after a certain period.

So I turned to natural skin care. I learned about the effects of the synthetic chemicals present in modern skin care and cosmetics. It is alarming to find how much chemicals that are being absorbed through our skin on daily basis, and some are even carcinogenic. It is no wonder how cancer statistics has increased over the years.  I’m not going to go into the details, but if you are interested, you can watch this video and be enlightened.

Okay moving on… Review time!

World Organic Introduction
I was introduced by The Hehs Lady, aka A’ishah Kamaludin.  I fell in love when I learned that they have 100% natural and certified organic makeup!

I’ve only known about natural skincare before, but makeup?? Wow. I’m amazed and so glad that I can use safe cosmetics.

Foundation

So I first ordered a foundation. Love it! It feels so light on my skin and it leaves my skin feeling moisturized.

It is, however light to moderate coverage so it doesn’t really cover much. For someone who doesn’t wear makeup so much but would like a little bit of coverage or something, this is perfect. If I want more coverage, I just use my Bare Minerals concealer.

Since I love the foundation so much, I bought an eyeliner, lipstick and blusher, just so I will have my basic makeup set. Plus my old makeup.. Need to be replaced.

Eyeliner

image

This is my must-have item. It is always with me wherever I go. And I always have a good eyeliner.

image

It comes in a tube and brush. It’s been such a long time since I used this kind of eyeliner. I usually use the liquid pen type. The brush is easy to work with and precise. So I got used to it pretty quickly. As with all liquid eyeliner, it takes some practice if you’re a liquid eyeliner virgin.

It is very pigmented, which is a surprise since it’s all natural. Yeah I’m sceptical like that. Lol. And it lasts just as long as a good long-lasting eyeliner! Which is a good thing.  I suspect it would last even longer when paired with my Urban Decay eye primer or perhaps just powder. It doesn’t smudge if at normal circumstances. This evening I was so sweaty in a train delay, and it held up well. Note that I wasn’t using any powder. Since i was so sweaty it did smudge when I purposely rubbed my eyes.

Blusher

image

The main reason why I *need* this brand. I have sensitive skin so usually blusher will cause tiny bumps to appear on my face. So i only use blusher for special occasions. My skin reacts very well to natural products so I guess I’m safe. So, yeay to daily blusher!

Again, it is very pigmented and I only need to apply a tiny bit. It has a lovely shimmer to it but its very subtle when applied.  The only downside is it only lasts for 12months once opened. So I have to use it everyday to finish the tub. Lol.

Lipstick

image

I bought the Sahara colour and it’s love! It looks so natural. It is also buildable for more intense colour or you can just dab for subtle effect.

A colleague of mine tried it on and it also looks lovely on her.

What I love about this lipstick is that it feels so light. It doesn’t feel heavy like usual lipsticks do, which is why I hardly use lipstick. This lipstick feels more like a lip balm.

In terms of wearing, I guess it wears well. I still have some on my lips after a couple of hot drinks and dinner. It’s much better than my NYX. Plus, now I’m not worried if I’m eating my lipstick because the ingredients are safe. So yes, it’s a win!

My look today. Huhuhu malunyaaa mak selfie. :p  please excuse my skin imperfections, its that time of the month and I was under stress. :p

You can get your World Organic products at their http://worldorganic.com.my or consult one of their ambassador, The Hehs Lady. She’s lovely. 😍

Disclaimer: I bought all these products using my own money and I receive no gifts or payments for this review. It is my opinion.

A Pretty Comprehensive Malaysian Cloth Diaper Brands Review

Since my previous post on why we made the decision to change to cloth, I thought I should do a review on cloth diapers to help people make decisions. When I started CD-ing, it is quite hard to find good reviews on economical cloth diapers in Malaysia.

All the cloth diapers I’m reviewing are under RM50, because I simply won’t be able to justify the price of premium diapers. Designer prints, yes. They all end up being pooped on.

The brands that I’m reviewing are; TeddyGenius, Adora, Rumparooz, Bamboolite, Bayu diapers.

Baby’s profile: Sara, 6mo baby girl.

Build: Slim, slim waist with slight tummy. Medium thighs.

Wetting behaviour: Moderate

Part 1: OS Pocket Diapers

malaysia cloth diaper review-10

Pockets are close to disposable diapers. Except that there’s a pocket that you can insert an absorbent insert that’s gonna absorb all the moisture. The insert is inserted into the pocket because it can not touch baby’s skin. Below are the general pros & cons of One Size Pocket Diapers.

Pros:

  • Prestuff pockets are more daddy/nanny friendly as stuffed pockets work like disposables.
  • Usually fast drying because the inserts come apart
  • Ability to customize absorbency by changing or doubling the inserts

Cons:

  • You may have to pull out nasty insert out to prior to washing.  Although some pockets are designed so that it self agitate in the washer.
  • It’s bulkier and takes more storage space
  • Requires extra time to stuff the pockets before use.
